Role:
John is Yorkshire Culture’s Director of Policy and Strategy, he is responsible for cultural development in areas of public policy, working in areas such as economic development, health, spatial planning, rural communities, education, skills and sustainable communities. John is the lead officer for Modelling Sustainability for the Cultural Sector, an EU/Yorkshire Forward/DCMS funded enterprise development programme for cultural non-profits.
Background:
John’s career started in live music promotion, and he worked for seven years at City of York Council, including two years as Head of Culture and Community Development. John joined Yorkshire Culture in August 2004.
Interests:
John is a keen sports fan – following York City football club and Yorkshire Cricket. He collects rare vinyl records and enjoys theatre, film, comedy, live music and modern art. His fantasy dinner guests would include Gandhi, Plato, Einstein, Chomsky, Muhammed Ali, Marilyn Monroe and Sid Vicious.
