Northern Way

The Northern Way is a unique collaboration between the three Northern Regional Development Agencies: Yorkshire Forward, NWDA and One NorthEast.

The 20 year strategy aims to transform the economy of the North of England. Success will be determined by the bridging of a £30billion output gap between the North and the average for England. It primarily focuses on tackling issues that are important for the whole of the North and which cannot be tackled by one region alone.

Yorkshire Culture, due to the breadth and depth of our Cultural Sector knowledge, were commissioned by Yorkshire Forward to deliver three main areas of the region’s Northern Way activity. The three main strands of the activity were: A Public Art Strategy for the Greater North, The Engagement of the Film and Media Sector in the Northern Way and Pan Regional Marketing using Cultural Product.

The Public Art theme ‘Welcome to the North’ emerged as a business plan priority for the Northern Way, by investing in some significant and iconic pieces of public art, The Northern Way aims to enhance the North's image and change perceptions, highlighting its cultural assets and developing its profile as a successful modern economy. Yorkshire Culture appointed the Northern Way Public Art Advisory Panel to provide expert advice on the Public Art programme.

This complex multi agency, multi partner project saw Yorkshire Culture take on a central management role through advice and the chairing of the Business Plan Advisory Group which appraised, monitored and advised on added value the projects and individual works of art. We are also managing a contract for three separate regional consultants to handle the evaluation of the project.
