The Indian International Film Academy Awards and IIFA Fringe Weekend
The Indian International Film Academy awards were hosted in Yorkshire this year with Yorkshire Culture playing a key role in bringing them to the region.
The showcase award ceremony took place at the Sheffield Hallam Arena on the 9th of June. The Awards are a major international event and the world’s third largest media event after the Olympics and the World Cup. The ceremony itself was broadcast worldwide and seen by an audience of up to two billion people and featured an astounding 3 minute opening act from Yorkshire theatre company Pilot Theatre.

For the first time alongside the IIFA awards, the region staged a Fringe Festival. The Fringe - a major collaborative project between the Local Authorities of Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Rotherham, York, Hull, Wakefield and Beverley - was co-ordinated and by managed Yorkshire Culture.
Through our involvement in this ground breaking project as one of the three “Yorkshire Partners”, we have seen our regional, national and international profile raised beyond all expectations with coverage estimated at a value of over six million pounds spanning from major British titles and European media organisations to south-Asian organs with an audience of hundreds of millions of readers and viewers. See the news page for links to just some of the press coverage of the weekend.
Gary Topp, Yorkshire Culture Chief Executive was also lucky enough to present a thank you present on behalf of the Yorkshire and Humber region to Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty; click here to read more about it. Gary was also the star of the media launch in Leeds Town Hall on June 5th with an inspirational speech on the cultural love affair between IIFA and Yorkshire.
