05/06/08 - Yorkshire & Humber companies winning London 2012 business benefits
Fourteen Yorkshire and Humber companies and organisations have already won work supplying the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), eight of them small and medium (SMEs) size, and many more have been supplying the ODA’s contractors. The latest London 2012 business engagement figures published today also show that SMEs make up 86% of the 912 companies from Yorkshire and Humber registered on the unique ‘dating agency’ which aims to match businesses with London 2012 related opportunities. Over 67 businesses have been automatically referred through CompeteFor to the local Business Link for business improvement support. more

17/03/08 - Lord Coe to visit rugby festival and tour York College
Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) will meet young players from across the region at the North Yorkshire Tagability Rugby Festival at York Rugby Club on Tuesday (18 March). He will also visit York College, recently selected by LOCOG to be included in the 2012 Pre-Games Training Camps Guide, for a tour of its new facilities. more

51 sporting facilities from the region, covering 29 sports, will feature in the London Organising Committee Pre-Games Training Camp Guide, it was announced today. Successful venues include the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, the John Charles Centre for Sport, Richard Dunn Sports Centre, York University and the Costello Arena in Hull. more

Businesses in the Humber are being invited to register on a national website offering Olympic contracts for 2012 and can find out more about the opportunities available at an event on the 19th February 2008. CompeteFor, a website set up for the publication of 2012 related contracts is supported by Yorkshire Forward and acts as a brokerage service between buyers throughout the 2012 supply chain and potential suppliers. It also provides access to business support services; building skills and capacity services. more

Thursday 20th December was a special day for eleven London 2012 babies from the Yorkshire and Humber region. Not only was it their birthday but they are amongst 750 lucky babies who will have a role in the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. more

Tessa Gordziejko has been appointed by Culture minister Margaret Hodge to be ‘Creative Programmer’ for Yorkshire. Tessa will be one of eight Creative Programmers across England, and will take forward plans for an inspiring Cultural Olympiad in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. more
13/09/07 - Young Photographer wins commission to capture the Region on film
Hannah Trigg, a graduate photography student from Immingham has won a prize commission worth £3500 to provide the photographic images for the forthcoming 'Yorkshire and Humber Integrated Regional Framework', a regional strategy focussing on environmentally sustainable development to be published by the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly.

WAKEFIELD ATHLETICS DAY
Even the pouring rain was not enough to curb the enthusiasm of children from across the region participating in this year's London 2012 Roadshow as it attended Wakefield's Fun Athletics Day yesterday - part of the tour of the UK, a spectacular event that also promoted the Roadshow's aim to encourage people to take up sport. more
