Young Photographer wins commission to capture the Region on film
13th September 2007
Hannah Trigg, a graduate photography student from Immingham has won a prize commission worth £3500 to provide the photographic images for the forthcoming ‘Yorkshire and Humber Integrated Regional Framework’, a regional strategy focussing on environmentally sustainable development to be published by the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly.

The competition, open to all of the region’s Higher Education photography students, was organised by Yorkshire Culture, on behalf of the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly, with the support of Skillset and Kodak. The 30 commissioned images set out a unique view of the people and places that make up the Yorkshire and Humber region. The competition will help Hannah launch her promising career as a freelance photographer and will provide a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the biggest names in the industry.
The commission also includes a mentorship from internationally renowned photographer and artist John Angerson, whose previous awards include the prestigious Ilford Photographer of the Year, Kodak Features Photographer of the Year and the UK Magazine photographer of the year. John was particularly impressed with Hannah’s work saying “Hannah clearly has considerable talent and a great eye for composition. It has both been enormously interesting and a pleasure mentoring such a talented young photographer and I’m sure this will be just the first step on what promises to be a successful career”.
On winning the competition Hannah said “This has given me the opportunity to further the career I have worked so hard for, fuelling my ambition to become a professional photographer. Working with John Angerson is the most fantastic experience I have had in gaining real knowledge about the real world of photography which you do not experience as a student. I have been so privileged in winning the competition and working with such an expert. John has taught me so much already and has given me the determination to succeed in the competitive industry of photography.”
Clive Leach CBE, Chair of Yorkshire Culture said “Our increasingly strong Media, Digital and Creative sectors are a massive asset to this region. Nurturing and retaining talent like this in the region is vital to our future prosperity and profile. It is imperative we continue to enable young, ambitious and talented people to enter these sectors.”
Peter Box, Chair of the Assembly, which will publish Hannah’s shots in its ‘Yorkshire and Humber Integrated Regional Framework’ document - said “We felt it was hugely important to support talent from within the region. Hannah’s knowledge of the region and her distinct style will provide a visual theme to the whole document and hopefully this will help her on the way to a bright future.”
Penelope Kearley said, on behalf of Skillset’s Photo Imaging Team, “We were delighted to support this initiative to nurture developing skills and encourage emerging talent in photography. We were very happy to use our industry contacts to source a mentor who would offer valuable support”
Mike Harding, Plant Manager, Kodak Limited ‘Kodak are delighted to support this exciting competition to support the emergence of new talent in the Yorkshire and Humber Region – we wish Hannah every success in her career and hope this commission provides an ideal launch pad’
