North Yorkshire Businesses Invited to Compete for London 2012 Contracts
Businesses in North Yorkshire are being invited to register on a national website offering contracts for London 2012 related work and can find out more about the opportunities available at an event on the 18th March 2008.
CompeteFor, a website set up for the publication of 2012 related contracts is supported by Yorkshire Forward and acts as a brokerage service between buyers throughout the London 2012 supply chain and potential suppliers. It also provides access to business support services; building skills and capacity services.
The York and North Yorkshire Launch of the London 2012 Business Network will be held at York Racecourse and will be introduced by Terry Hodgkinson, Chair of Yorkshire Forward. Speakers on the day include Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and Martin Havenhand, Chair of the Yorkshire Committee for the 2012 Games.
London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe comments: “We always envisioned that the Games coming to London would provide opportunities for the whole country – and we’re already seeing that. CompeteFor is a tangible example of where these opportunities exist – but as with all opportunities, they need to be grabbed. We anticipate that between now and 2012, there will be around £6bn worth of contracts and some 75,000 supply chain opportunities out there. I’m confident that the businesses of Yorkshire will be already preparing themselves to take advantage of these opportunities – and CompeteFor will help them do just that.”
Simon Hill, Executive Director for Business at supporting body Yorkshire Forward comments: “London 2012 is a chance to get Yorkshire and Humber onto a ready made global business platform. Businesses in every sector from construction, engineering and manufacturing to creative, merchandising and retail will be among those which stand to benefit.
Registering with CompeteFor will mean you can find out about the opportunities available and can apply for a contract that, if won, could not only help your business prospects but also put your business services in front of a worldwide audience”.
Gary Topp, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Culture and Yorkshire and Humber’s Nations and Regions Coordinator said: “Yorkshire and Humber is firmly behind the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and there is a palpable enthusiasm from the region’s businesses to be involved. Compete For will provide the ideal way for Yorkshire and Humber’s businesses to enter into the supply chain for 2012 and contribute towards making the Games a success for the whole of the UK”
CompeteFor has been developed on behalf of the English Regional Development Agencies and UK Devolved Administrations by the London Development Agency, working closely with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
