Humber Businesses Invited to Compete for Olympic Contracts
Businesses in the Humber are being invited to register on a national website offering Olympic contracts for 2012 and can find out more about the opportunities available at an event on the 19th February 2008.
CompeteFor, a website set up for the publication of 2012 related contracts is supported by Yorkshire Forward and acts as a brokerage service between buyers throughout the 2012 supply chain and potential suppliers. It also provides access to business support services; building skills and capacity services.
The Olympic Delivery Authority Business Procurement event will take place at the Guildhall, Hull City Council and offers businesses the chance to learn what opportunities are available surrounding 2012 and how they can tender for contracts offered using CompeteFor.
The event will also inform businesses of the support available in assistance with tenders and schemes such as Train to Gain and the Skills Pledge. A question and answer session with speakers from The Olympic Delivery Authority, Business Link and the Learning and Skills Council will take place.
Simon Hill, Executive Director for Business at supporting body Yorkshire Forward comments: “The London 2012 Olympics is a chance to get Yorkshire and Humber onto a ready made global business platform. UK businesses in every sector from construction, engineering and manufacturing to creative, merchandising and retail will be among those which stand to benefit.
Registering with Compete For will mean you can find out about the opportunities available and can apply for a contract that, if won, could not only help your business prospects but also put your business services in front of a worldwide audience”.
Gary Topp, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Culture and Yorkshire and Humber’s Nations and Regions Co-Ordinator said: “Yorkshire and Humber is firmly behind the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and there is a palpable enthusiasm from the region’s businesses to be involved. Compete For will provide the ideal way for Yorkshire and Humber’s businesses to enter into the supply chain for 2012 and contribute towards making the Games a success for the whole of the UK”
CompeteFor has been developed on behalf of the English Regional Development Agencies and UK Devolved Administrations by the London Development Agency, working closely with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
